LinkedIn outreach message templates
Copy-and-edit templates for every step of a LinkedIn outreach sequence, from the connection note to the polite last message. Replace the [placeholders] and make each one sound like you.
Connection notes
Shared group
You are both in a LinkedIn group
Hi [Name], I noticed we're both in the [Group] group. I'd like to follow what you share, so I'm sending a request.
Their post
They posted something you genuinely found useful
Hi [Name], I read your post about [topic] and the point on [specific detail] was useful. Would be good to connect.
Mutual connection
You share a connection who would vouch for you
Hi [Name], we're both connected to [Mutual name]. I work on [what you do] and thought it would be good to be connected.
Same event
You attended or followed the same event
Hi [Name], I saw you were at [Event]. I'm following the conversation around [topic], so I'd like to connect.
Same role or problem
You work on the same kind of problem
Hi [Name], I also work on [problem or role] and your profile stood out. No pitch, just building a useful network.
No note at all
You have nothing specific to say
(Send the request with no note. A blank request is fine, and a vague note such as "I'd like to add you to my network" does not help.)
First message after they accept
One question about them
Cold audience, you want a reply before you pitch
Thanks for connecting, [Name]. Quick question: when [situation they likely face], who handles [task]? I ask because we work on this and I'm curious how teams like yours do it today.
Name the problem, offer a look
You are confident the problem applies
Thanks for connecting, [Name]. Many [role] teams tell us [problem] takes more time than it should. We built [product] to handle [specific job]. Here's a short demo: [link] Worth a look?
Lead with something useful
You have a resource that helps without a call
Thanks for connecting, [Name]. I put together [resource] on [topic]. It might save you time on [task], so here it is: [link] No reply needed. If it's useful I'd like to hear what you think.
Ask who is right
You are not sure they are the decision maker
Thanks for connecting, [Name]. I'm trying to reach whoever handles [area] at [Company]. Is that you, or could you point me to the right person?
Follow-ups
Short bump
No reply after 3 to 4 days
Hi [Name], just floating this back up in case it got buried. Is [question or topic] something you're looking at this quarter?
A different angle
Second follow-up, one week later
Hi [Name], a different way to put it: [one sentence on the outcome they care about, for example fewer hours spent on follow-up]. If that matters to you, here's a short demo: [link].
Share something concrete
You have a real example or resource (never invent one)
Hi [Name], thought this might be relevant to what you're working on: [link to a real article, case study or demo]. Happy to answer questions if any come up.
Ask about timing
They showed interest but went quiet
Hi [Name], I know timing matters. Is this something to pick up now, or would a few weeks from now suit you better? Either is fine.
Last touch
Polite last message
Final message in the sequence
I'll leave it here, [Name]. If [problem] ever becomes a priority, the short demo is here whenever it's useful: [link]. Wishing you a good [quarter or season].
Ask for a redirect
Final message when the timing may be wrong, not the fit
Last note from me, [Name]. If this isn't your area, who at [Company] would be the right person to ask about [topic]? Thanks either way.
Replies
They say "tell me more"
Positive reply
Glad it's relevant, [Name]. The short version: [two sentences]. The quickest way to see it is this short demo: [link]. If it looks useful, we can find 15 minutes this week. What day suits you?
They say "not now"
Soft no
Understood, [Name], thanks for letting me know. I'll check back in [timeframe] unless you'd rather I didn't. If anything changes before then, I'm easy to find.
They say "not interested"
Hard no
No problem, [Name], and thanks for the quick answer. I won't follow up again. All the best with [something specific to them].
They ask what this is
They are confused (fix the message that confused them)
Fair question, [Name], and sorry if that wasn't clear. In one sentence: [what you do, in plain words, for whom]. If that isn't relevant to you, no problem at all.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use these LinkedIn message templates as they are?
Treat them as a starting point. Replace every [placeholder], cut anything that does not sound like you, and keep one clear ask per message. Identical messages sent to hundreds of people read that way.
How many follow-ups should I send?
A common pattern is a first message, one or two short follow-ups spaced a few days apart, and a polite last message. Stop when someone says no.
How long should a LinkedIn message be?
Short. A few short paragraphs at most, one idea each, ending in a single question or link. Connection notes are limited to 300 characters.
Do the templates include any made-up results?
No. They contain no statistics, customer names or claims. Add only things that are true.
