Social selling is using social networks, mainly LinkedIn, to find prospects, build relationships, and start sales conversations. It combines a credible profile, useful content, and direct, relevant outreach.
Social selling treats a social platform as a place to build trust before and during a sale. Instead of only sending cold messages, a seller shares useful posts, comments thoughtfully, and engages with prospects' activity, so a later message comes from someone familiar.
On LinkedIn this usually includes an optimized profile that states who you help, consistent activity, and personalized outreach that references something real about the prospect. It is slower to build than a pure outbound blast but tends to make the messages that follow feel less cold.
Social selling and outbound outreach are complementary. Engagement warms a prospect, and outreach gives them a clear way to talk to you. The risk is treating it as only posting content with no direct follow-through, or only automation with no real presence.
